Tomorrow I'm doing my first ever official half-marathon. I've been running for many years now in a very casual sense: two or three 5k runs per week, the occasional "long" 8k to 10k run, and no real plan around schedule, diet, or exercise. But since registering for this race a few months back, I've been following the Jeff Galloway run/walk half-marathon plan and it's been amazing. My endurance has gone up, and I'm now way more aware of how diet, sleep, and recovery effect both my runs and my general well-being. But imposter syndrome is a funny thing!

My first half-marathon done! How did it go? Well, funnily enough, the worst-case scenario that I outlined in my previous post is exactly how it played out: At close to the 15k mark, I had to downgrade my run/walk pace to a slow walk for the remainder of the race. On multiple occasions, I tried to will myself to power through and start running again: "You got this, Mansoor! Push on through! You're almost there!" But any attempt to resume a run quickly had my legs massively cramping up, and my mind going, "Nope! That won't do..."

Today my 11-year-old daughter said "Whoopsie!", then went on to laugh about it, saying that she doesn't know how or why that word is still part of her vocabulary. I told her that I knew the answer: She got the word from me! At 43 years old, I still say it whenever I commit a small mishap. It was only after I was well into adulthood that it was brought to my attention that it might sound a bit strange coming out of the mouth of an adult. "Bro, did you just say 'whoopsie'?"
